Handbook of Art Law

25/03/2026

Presentation

The book Manual de Derecho del Arte (Art Law Handbook) edited by Yolanda Bergel Sainz de Baranda, Rafael Sánchez Aristi and Sara Martín Salamanca, is an introductory handbook on Art Law — a legal discipline still in the process of definition, combining rules of both public and private law to regulate everything related to works of art.

The handbook will offer a clear and systematic overview of topics such as the protection of artistic creation (intellectual property and copyright), the national and international circulation of artworks, taxation, art market contracts, the role of its key players, and offences related to cultural heritage.

It is not an exhaustive treatise, but rather a didactic work aimed at postgraduate students and professionals in the art and legal sectors. Its goal is to provide a broad and practical perspective in an increasingly relevant field, shaped by the growth of the art market, digitalisation and new technological challenges.
